Hallstadt metalworker is state winner and second national winner

Here the topic of training is written very roughly. "We have trained over 50 apprentices since the year 2000", says joachim angerer, one of the two managing directors of stahlbau-metalltechnik johann heim gmbh in hallstadt. Sitting next to him is dominik grubert, 20 years young, from muhlendorf near stegaurach. After three and a half years in the traditional company, he has not only successfully completed his apprenticeship as a metalworker specializing in construction technology, he is also the bavarian state winner in the craftsmen’s performance competition. A few days ago, dominik took second place in the national competition in northeim, making him the second-best metalworker in germany in the field of construction technology.
He has always been interested in metalworking, says a press release from the chamber of crafts for upper franconia. Dominik grubert came into contact with steel construction and metal technology at home through his father, who was also a classic craftsman as a tiler, and first completed an internship. "Dominik was immediately interested", angerer remembers. The current state winner also mastered the mathematics and technical drawing tasks with flying colors. Dominik grubert is the company’s fifth chamber winner since 2006, two of whom have already been third state winners.
Stahlbau-metalltechnik johann heim gmbh in hallstadt can look back on a history spanning more than 240 years. This makes the company one of the oldest in the region. The special note here: stahlbau heim has been in the hands of the heim family in unbroken succession and is now being run by the seventh generation. The company originated from the locksmith business of nikolaus heim in the concordiastrabe in bamberg.
There is documentary evidence that training was already a topic in the foundation years. An entry in the 1775 record book provides evidence of the first apprentice in the heim locksmith’s shop. According to the book, he was called johann unrein, came from bamberg and was apprenticed to nikolaus heim for four years. Today the company has over 100 employees.
For state winner dominik grubert, who was of course also taken on and is currently working as a skilled worker in the company, the master craftsman’s examination will probably take place in the near future. "With the award the master is a must", say the managing directors joachim angerer and joachim heim. The chances are good that stahlbau-metalltechnik johann heim gmbh will also be able to train and take on three metalworkers and one precision mechanic in the future.
